The MWGrid Medieval Warfare on the Grid Ph.D. research employs visualisation, and in particular agent-based modelling in investigating the logistical organisation of the Byzantine army on its march to the battle of Manzikert (1071) and its effect on the Anatolian communities that supplied the army. Philip Murgatroyd's doctoral research concentrates specifically on the behavioural processes and data structure underlying the larger grid application.
